Our Philosophy

At Little Kiwi Explorers, we believe in the magic of learning through play, discovery and close relationships with local families.

Nurturing Curiosity

When teachers nurture children's interests with warmth and care, both adults and children grow and learn together.

Safe Environment

We provide a stimulating and safe environment filled with care that encourages challenge and growth.

Child-Initiated Learning

We support child-led activities with uninterrupted periods of play, with teachers guiding and extending each journey.

"A young child is a literal, physical creature who needs to experience life in her own way, in her own time, on her own terms, and with her own body. And when she does, she's learning all she needs to know, and then some."
— Connell, G,. & McCarthy, C. (2014)

Infant Specialisation

From birth, infants communicate their needs through cues and gestures. Our teachers are experts in sensitive observation, ensuring every physical, emotional, and spiritual need is met in predictable ways.

"Here at Little Kiwi Explorers we promote free movement for infants."

Active Toddlers

Toddlers are active, curious, and seeking to make sense of their world. We support their self-regulation by staying calm and offering choices within a language-rich environment.

We provide a stimulating and safe environment that promotes challenges through uninterrupted periods of play.

Physical Excellence

"Movement is a three-dimensional, dynamic puzzle. To help understand these complexities, we focus on the three Fundamental Movement Patterns (FMPs)."

Locomotion

The ability to move your body from here to there.

Stability

The ability to maintain balance while still or in motion.

Manipulation

The ability to effect objects with part of your body or with an instrument.

Our Four Guiding Principles

Aotearoa's early childhood curriculum

Empowerment

Children have the opportunity to create and act on their own ideas, developing knowledge and skills in areas that spark their curiosity.

Holistic Development

We consider how each child's learning connects with every part of their growth: mind, body, heart, and spirit.

Family & Community

We foster children's well-being by embracing families and building caring connections across each child's world.

Relationships

We build high quality relationships through open communication, trust, respect, and genuine care.
